Summer 2021: Sharing My Summertime Essentials!

I love reading newsletters from my favourite bloggers, YouTubers, ballerinas and fitness community leaders, so I thought as a change to my Isola blog, I’d share some of my summertime skincare essentials!

Summertime Skincare Favorites!

I always love to sample a few different suncare products! Our skin changes all the time, so we may need a different product this year than what we’ve used previously. Also, suncare products have come a long way in the last few years, so be sure to purchase one with a coral reef protection stamp on it!

Here are a few of my favourite skincare and bodycare products that help me feel hydrated, glowing and protected from the sun this summer: (Note: I have very sensitive skin, so I prefer to only wear sun protection products on my skin if I know I’m going to be outdoors in the sun for an extended period of time, and I remove them as soon as I’m indoors or out of the sun. This helps me to avoid any kind of reaction, like watery eyes, blocked pores or redness, which I find many sun protectant products can bring about)

  1. Isola Nude Lips SPF 15: This is the ‘sister’ to the Isola Ballerina Skincare Oil, made into a lip balm with added zinc oxide to prevent sun burned lips!
  2. Isola Ballerina Skincare Oil: This oil is essential for keeping my skin hydrated while I’m sweating, protected from my makeup or suncare products, and free from post-workout breakouts!
  3. La Roche Posay Eau Thermale: I love using a mineral water spray on my skin before applying my moisturizing oil. Its a great way to feel refreshed, and to let the body have a little extra does of important minerals absorbed through the skin from the mineral rich water.
  4. Caudalie SPF 50: This is a great SPF cream, and it smells really good! I prefer to use creamy suncare protection products on my neckline, and shoulders (I order this through Cult Beauty in the UK, otherwise I don’t believe this is in retailers in Canada)
  5. By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder: In general, I don’t use powder products on my face, but this powder really locks in hydration – the reason I use this in the summertime is that I have very sensitive skin, and I tend to have reactions if I get any sun protection products near my eyes. So after applying sun protectant, I use this powder on my cheeks and forehead to prevent the sunscreen from moving towards my eyes.
  6. Isola Betty’s Legs Coffe & Thyme Leg & Body Toning Oil: I’m using this every morning (it smells like fresh ground coffee and I just LOVE how refreshing it feels!) It helps to keep my suntan, makes my skin smooth and even, and absorbs quickly and isn’t ‘oily’, so I don’t have to worry about any oil on my clothing. \
  7. Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre: As with the By Terry face powder, this I primarily use if I’m applying makeup over sun protectant, and I want a nice even skin tone without worrying about my sun care product ‘moving’ on my face towards my eyes. I tend to not wear foundation, so this powder is a practical, easy alternative to foundation for a natural summertime look.
  8. La Roche Posay SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer: This is a great SPF product for the face that I find really doesn’t move around once its applied, plus its lightweight and has a slight tint to it, giving the face a little bit of coverage. You only need a tiny drop of it too!
  9. Creme de La Mer SPF 50: If you have dollars to spare, this is a really effective lightweight suncare product. Its great for the face and neckline, but its very expensive for a small amount (although, you don’t need to use a lot of it – I think the 50ml will last me all summer)
  10. Isola Coconut & Sea Kelp Bathing Salts: These salts are a perfect way to end the day: when added to a bath, they’re cleansing and detoxing for the body, hydrating and repairing for the skin, and they’re refreshing for the senses with their lavender and mandarin aromas.
